Goals, and a new project!

Friday, August 12th, 2005

If you are reading this in a feed reader, I am sorry, It will keep poping up as I make changes.
Now that I know a few people read this blog, I’m going to ask them all for a favor.
I am going to write down a list of my goals, and commit to a new project. If anyone reading this sees me slacking off, just let me know - Please.
Goals:
* Happiness

I am happy most of the time, but I get really down sometimes, I’d like to do things to prevent this

* Fitness

I was doing “Crossfit”:http://crossfit.com for a while, but now that I don’t belong to a gym, it is hard
Time is (of course) my least flexible resource…
Discipline is tough for me

* Projects

I want to learn Ruby, then use Ruby on Rails to make a few ideas that have been bouncing around in my head

* A new (for me) car

I need a better way to get Ellie and my future bike around - I wanted to get a used element, but A) my credit is bad, and B) they are hard to find used. I think I will pick up an older Mini Van once my credit is a bit better.

* A house

This is a further goal - but again, it is mostly for Ellie (and future dogs!)

Now for the project announcement!
The *Things I eat* project
I am going to take pictures of everything I eat, and post them to “flickr”:http://flickr.com/groups/thingsieat. The point of this is to bring awareness to the things I’m eating, so I can make better descisions. As of right now, this project is new and exciting, so my first day is going to be awesome - good food choices, good portion control. But I know, that as I go on, I will slip - that is where I need people to give me a kick in the butt and get me back on track. John had a good idea - so I’ve also started a flickr group “Things I Eat” so anyone can join in the fun (both advice AND taking pictures of your own food).

Running with someone else.

Sunday, June 26th, 2005

I was running around the lake today (google_run.php), and about half way through (well a bit more - my GPS lied today and lost about 1/10th of a mile!) I started jogging. It just so happened that someone was jogging just behind me at the same pace. Well he caught up and started asking me about Ellie (my flatcoated retriever). We ended up runing together for about half a mile at a good pace (about 9:30/mile). Wow, it just FLEW by! I really need to get a running buddy.

It’s hard being a cynic.

Its hard being a cynic.
So John and I just finished a contest. It was who can do more pushups, situps, miles, squats and pounds lost in 15 days. I won, but hardly. But I learned a few things that I wanted to share.

  1. Consistant Action is key
  2. Never give up (I gave up a few times)
  3. You *CAN* do it… you just have to do it

I am not trying to be a motivational speaker here, but I really think that too much info is a bad thing when it comes to changing your body and life - if you spend all your time thinking and analyzing, you spend no time doing.

I am a cynic, and it is very hard for me to take advice from other people. Espically when it comes in a cheesy package. But doing this contest really showed me some things, and I am very happy I learned them.

New Theme. Working out

Thursday, April 28th, 2005

Its clear that I’m using a new theme.
its “Connections”:http://playwith.wpthemes.info/ I _really_ like it. Although I don’t love the picture up top.

Also, I started working out again. I walked around the lake with Ellie, it was nice.
Ex time was 32.17,
HR (average) 136

It took me like 2 hours to get down to < 80BPM.. not good
